PRIZE GIVING & PARENTS’ DAY - MIDDLE SCHOOL & JUNIOR SECONDARY

The Prize Giving & Parents’ Day of the Middle School & Junior Secondary started at 9.00 a.m with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr.P.Srikaran, former Vice Principal of the College and his wife Mrs. Rajani Srikaran, Vice Principal of Anakoddai Balasubramaniam Vidyalayam.Accompanying them was the College Principal, the Rev.N.J.Gnanaponrajah with Vice Principal, Mr.V.S.B.Thuseetharan and the Chairperson, Mr.A.H.Gnanarajan, Sectional Head of grade 1 to 9 and Vice Principal of the College. The Scout Troop and College Band gave them all a fitting welcome. The College Hymn was followed by a Prayer by the Rev. V. Daniel Jeyaruban.
The welcome speech by G.Nithiyajeevan was warm and cordial.
Next, the Middle School Report and Junior Secondary School Report were read out by the Supervisors of the respective sections, Mrs. K. N. Arulraj and Mr.R.S.Bavananthan.
Distribution of prizes by Mrs. Rajani Srikaran followed. The first student performance to glitter was the English group song by Gr. 6 & 7, “The Rose Tralee.“
Next event was a Property Dance by the students of grades 8 & 9.
The English Song “Applause” by A.Nishoban won a round of applause from the audience.
The Choral Recitation by Gr 8 & 9 based on Shakespeare’s, “The Seven Ages of Man,” was also a wonderful performance.
Then next event was a Sinhala Song by Gr. 6 & 7 – ‘Ayanna Kiyanna.’ The students’ ability in their second language was evident in their performance.
Next was a switch to the mother tongue. A Drama by the students of grade 8 and 9 based on humanism, depicting the traditions and culture of the local community had a good message for the audience and made them to put their thinking caps on.Next was a Tamil Oratory on folk dance by V.Panpoly of Gr 8. He was remarkably expressive and articulate.
Next, K.Subanujan of Gr 9 recited the poem,“Daffodils.”The event that followed was the speech by the Principal, the Rev. N.J.Gnanaponrajah. His speech was encouraging and empowering..
Following his speech, a memento in remembrance of the former Vice Principal’s visit to the Parents’ Day was given to the Chief Guest.
A Tamil group song by Gr 8 & 9 students, ‘Iniyanatham,’ was next.
The next event was a performance by K.Abishagar of Gr 9. He sang, ‘Feel this Moment,” and danced beautifully to the rhythm. After K.Abishagar had finished feeling the moment, an English Drama titled “Verb Tenses“ was staged by the students of Gr. 6 & 7. The characters represented the different tenses in English – a novel way to teach tenses to the children.
After the tenses became a thing of the past, N.Ebenezer from Gr 6 sang an English Song, “I have a Dream.“
Tamil Dance by the students of Gr. 6 & 7 followed.
The next event was a classical instrumental performance by Gr. 8 & 9. It, somehow, seemed to change the atmosphere of the stage.The last performance was a song by the Gr.7 & 8 students, “Never Say Never.” This brought the students’ events to an end. The Chief Guest’s address was regarding childhood and the days of one’s life that is spent in being a student. He talked about the need to prepare for anything and everything. He also talked about performance, achievement, children’s motivation and parental role.
Following his speech, a short but sweet Vote of Thanks was proposed by A.Karish. The function ended with everyone rising to their feet to sing the College Song.
